[H5] Cup Without a Saucer
[H5] Cup Without a Saucer - One time when the 'The Flying Saucers’ came to Earth to play a few low key gigs, they met a guy, headlining at a local watering hole, Martin Cudworth, and very good they thought him. So they took him back to Venus with them, and he entertained them royally on the long flights, well about 3 hours in the saucer., After a few years of partying he got home sick and they brought him back to Earth. Unfortunately he left all his tapes on Venus, except for these. so only a few scraps remained of the times they had. Now these too have become the stuff of legend, as he left them on a bus, a Si fi nut found them, and recognised the tape brand as Venusian. He bootlegged them as ‘Syd Cup and the Flying Saucers’. We at DCM love a Tsll Story and Martin Cudworth - a Splendid guy - so we've included them here as: 'Cup without a saucer' - it's a bit rough, perhaps, but come on, Venusian Cassettes in the 70’s were awful, but there is some lovely music to be had here.
[H4] Saucer Blues. Their 3rd studio album - apparently quite sometime after the first two - and of course the live ‘at Area 51 album.
Well, David Dhonau and I were driving with Jim Tetlow on a sort of DCM day out, in Derbyshire my home and we stopped off at Bonsal - the UFO capital of Britain for Tea and scones. Rather taken by a geeky bookshop we went inside and were looking through some old records and found two other Flying Saucer Albums. Some guy in the area had found then on his farmhouse doorstep alongside crop circles in his Fields. We bought them and went off to meet the guy. He told us all about the area - how you get buzzed at night by them - he had even had aliens in his kitchen wanting milk for their tea - they left the records as a gift in return - stuff they listened to between the stars. Not his taste he passed them on just a few days before. We were lucky they were still there - as DCM Director I lost no time in publishing them.
[H3] Live at Area 51 - The DCM Text. “Dark Cosmic thrash - much to the surprise of the US Government when ‘They’ turned up to play. There was no dissecting them - John Highhat in his Air force uniform made sure of that. He had taken Venusian Citizenship and even a Venusian wife he wasn’t keen to leave the saucers. That’s what it said on the tape that we could read. The rest was in languages too strange for us. This bootleg has been circulating the inner planets for years and has been available on Earth though through special interest groups - especially in Germany where this kind of music really took off in the Early 70’s. This is a 1973 Radio Venus broadcast of that Gig which was in ‘our’ 1969. Did Tangerine Dream help them or the other way around ? It’s not encoded with secret messages don’t waste your time looking - it’s just good old Rock’n’Roll - try The Rolling Stones for that kinda stuff. We at DCM got our copy from a bookshop in Bonsal, near Matlock, Derbyshire, the UFO capital of Britain - together with their third studio Album ‘Saucer Blues.”
[H2] Home to Venus - their second album - found together with their first [H1] at a UFO crash site and someone in the US dropped some copies over to DCM. The text - helpfully in English read -
“Returning from Vietnam, now alone in his B52, Captain John Highhat, had stayed at the controls so the crew were able to bail safely. It is what any man would do for others in peril. Now He was heading for the drink - a few seconds and it would all be over. Suddenly on the horizon a flying saucer appeared, ’What the hell’ he said - just as he felt himself dissolve. He’d been beamed on board the crazy ship, saving his life and taking him back to Venus. Here John taught the Venusians to play rock'n'Roll and the band was formed, with julian Broadhurst and Christian Milezhigh Delaney, Chen, Qasm and Bling. Their first two albums Out from Venus and Home to Venus became cosmic classics and nothing more was heard of The Flying Saucers for many years. Recently two additional albums that had circulated the inner planets as bootlegs for years came to light on Earth, Live at Area 51 was broadcast on Radio Venus in 1973 and additionally a third studio album, Saucer Blues, was discovered at the same time. Since then sadly nothing more has been heard of them, retired no doubt happily, on Venus where we hope they still play the odd gig.”
Seems this stuff is popular with the Alien crowd and as they say a Cosmic Classic - so we at DCM thought we’d cash in and released eventually all five.
Some Kats at my Local University may have helped. I met up with an old friend from my wild days, Martin Cudworth who introduced me to them and splendid time was had by all at all times of the day and night - man do Venusians party ! Did I behave like that when I was their age - well, yes !
I had not long finished the first run of albums with David Dhonau as D’juil and some work with Johannas Schafer - and sandwiched between that and the Saucers was a 13th album for Tetlow and Broadhurst with Jim Tetlow [] Tredecadent voices.
